Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and his Assembly Republican colleagues are launching a statewide public awareness campaign about the 2020 U.S. Census. The public service announcements feature state representatives in regional and state videos to remind citizens about the importance of participating in the population count even as the state and country contend with the public health emergency.

“As the nation battles the coronavirus pandemic, we thought it was important to remind our constituents about the U.S. Census,” said Speaker Vos. “Filling out the census forms is a civic duty that can be done right from your own home. These numbers will help the federal government understand how much support should be given to Wisconsin.”

More than two dozen GOP state representatives took part in the videos filmed in the districts they represent. The videos stress the importance of being counted so people can be properly represented in the state legislature and Congress. The census results impact the amount of federal dollars Wisconsin receives for things like roads, bridges, hospitals and schools.

State representatives also point out that for the first time, the census form can be filled out online or by phone. The census forms have already been hitting mailboxes. Submissions are still accepted by mail. Census responses are private and confidential under federal law.
