Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement after the final regular floor session for the Wisconsin State Assembly.

“The Assembly regular session ended on a high note with the passage of the GOP Tax Cut Plan and a comprehensive agricultural aid package.

“Once again Republicans voted to return surplus dollars back to the taxpayers. The Assembly approved a $250 million middle class tax cut with bipartisan support. The plan also pays down state debt, reduces personal property taxes and makes a rainy day fund deposit. I’m proud that our smart budgeting and strong economy are paying dividends to Wisconsin families. Combining the two middle class tax cuts this session, the average filer will save roughly $300.

“It was great to see the agricultural aid package pass with overwhelming support. We know Wisconsin farmers are struggling. This package provides short-term and long-term relief to a $100 billion industry that’s vital to our state economy.

“Assembly Republicans have led the way throughout the 2019-2020 legislative session. Wisconsin has a conservative budget, historic investments in roads and schools, and increased access to quality health care. We had three highly successful speaker’s task forces that addressed water quality, suicide prevention and adoption. I appreciate all the efforts that went into these committees and am confident their work will make a difference.

“It’s estimated that more than 90 percent of the bills received bipartisan support in the Assembly this session. We have proven that you can accomplish a great deal when you work together. While this is the final regular floor session day, our legislative work is far from over.  We’ll be considering additional veto override attempts during the veto review floor period in May.”
