Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement in honor of Juneteenth:
“Today our nation commemorates Juneteenth, a day 155 years ago when enslaved Americans in Texas finally received the news that they were free. The Emancipation Proclamation from President Abraham Lincoln forever ties the Republican Party to this important day. And I’m proud the birthplace of the GOP was in the Little White Schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin. This year, Juneteenth serves as an important reminder that more must be done to ensure every American can enjoy the same freedoms and opportunities outlined in our founding principles.”
