MADISON – Upon being re-elected as Senate Minority leader this afternoon, Senator Janet Bewley (D-Mason) released the following statement:

“I would like to thank my colleagues for placing their trust in me to lead our caucus during such a trying time for our state. I know that the work ahead of us will be difficult and I could not be more pleased with the great leadership team we have assembled in Senator Ringhand, Senator Smith, and Senator – Elect Sargent. We are committed to working with our entire caucus, Democrats in the Assembly and Governor Evers to move our agenda of shared values forward,” said Bewley.

“With death tolls rising and case counts surging even higher, our communities are being devastated, and as a caucus we know that more must be done to stop the spread of COVID-19. We are facing a pivotal moment for our state with many critical issues to address. From the systemic racism that plagues our communities, to the environmental threats that endanger our precious natural resources, and the economic uncertainty that has caused hardship for so many Wisconsin families, especially in rural areas, it’s clear that the road ahead will be challenging.

Senate Democrats are up for the challenge and committed to fighting to put Wisconsin families and workers first. We know that time for action is now, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to tackle these issues head on and serve the people of our state.”
