MADISON, WI – Sen. Janet Bewley (D-Mason) released the following statement after being elected Senate Democratic Leader:

“I am honored that my colleagues have entrusted me with the responsibility of serving as Senate Democratic Leader. I especially want to thank Senator Jennifer Shilling for her years of service and leading our caucus with passion, dedication and grace. She fully embodies the Democratic values that we hold dear and I look forward to continuing her legacy.

“I am excited to work with my colleagues in the Senate in this new role, especially in light of the current COVID-19 crisis. Senate Democrats will continue to champion the values and ideals of Wisconsin’s hardworking families across the state, from Milwaukee to Port Wing. This is a stressful time for our state and now more than ever, we need to fight for the small businesses, communities, and families that are feeling the brunt of this pandemic.

“I look forward to working with Gov. Evers and my colleagues to build a brighter future and move our state forward.”

In addition to unanimously electing Sen. Janet Bewley as the Senate Democratic Leader, Sen. Janis Ringhand (D-Evansville) was unanimously elected as the Assistant Democratic Leader.
