Madison, WI — Today, State Senator David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) released the following statement relating to Senate passage of the Republican tax cut legislation (Senate Bill 821):

“Thanks to our past conservative reforms and our strong economy, the Senate was able to pass a tax cut that returns over $220 million to middle-class families and return the surplus money back where it belongs – with the taxpayer.

“The bill also reduces the burdensome personal property tax for small businesses and reduces outstanding general fund debt by $100 million, saving taxpayers on interest payments in the future.

“Governor Evers’ plan is a spending increase which balloons the obligation of state taxpayers in the future. In contrast to the Governor’s spending increase, our tax cut plan is centered on returning the surplus tax collections to those that already paid it, reducing compliance costs for business, and getting rid of debt.”
