Madison  Today, Senate Majority Leader-elect Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) announced that he is appointing Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) as Senate Co-Chair of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee.  The appointment will formally take effect in January.  Sen. LeMahieu issued the following statement:

“I am excited to appoint Sen. Marklein as co-chair of the Legislature’s budget committee.

“Throughout his six years on the Joint Finance Committee, Sen. Marklein has been a strong advocate for rural road funding, tax reform and broadband expansion.  During the last budget process, he led Senate Republican efforts to further cut income taxes.

“The 2021-23 state budget is expected to be especially challenging.  As a CPA, Sen. Marklein’s unique skill set will be invaluable to our efforts to pass a budget that protects taxpayers while still investing in healthcare and other core priorities.

“Finally, thanks to Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) for her service as co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee.  Under her leadership, Wisconsin has had ten years of balanced budgets, lower taxes, and now has the largest rainy day fund in state history.”

Senator Devin LeMahieu represents the 9th Senate District, which includes portions of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Calumet Counties.  He was recently elected Senate Majority Leader for the 2021-22 legislative session.
