Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) released the following statement in response to serious violence last night at the Wisconsin State Capitol that left State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) injured after being assaulted by the mob and a failed attempt to firebomb the City-County Building. Senator Nass’ office suffered significant window damage in the chaos.
“Last night is the direct result of Governor Tony Evers and Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway enabling the mobs that have been roaming the State Capital area for several weeks. These thugs have been committing crimes for weeks with little response from the Madison Police Department at the direction of the liberal mayor and city council.
Right now, downtown Madison is not safe for law abiding citizens, particularly at night. The mobs have been using so-called peaceful protests as cover to gather and organize during each night of violence.
Governor Evers and Mayor Rhodes-Conway need to allow the police and National Guard to prevent the violence, make mass arrests of these criminals and restore the rule of law on Madison streets.
The mob violence is escalating and more innocent citizens are facing the real threat of great bodily harm from these thugs. The time has come for overwhelming force to bring an end to anarchy in Wisconsin.”
