MADISON, WI – After legislative Democrats introduced the Respect Women Act to improve access to safe health care, Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) released the following statement:

“We need to end the unprecedented Republican interference between a patient and their physician. Women make hundreds of decisions every day, and it is time that we empower them to make the most personal decisions about their health without meddling by Republican politicians. Wisconsin Democrats want to respect a woman’s ability to make her own health care decisions free from harassment, intimidations and false information.”

The Respect Women Act includes two separate bills designed to:

  • Keep politicians out of the exam room by repealing unnecessary abortion restrictions that are not grounded in medical science or widely accepted medical best practices.
  • Ensure all patients receive honest, medically accurate information when seeking health care by preventing politicians from dictating what doctors say to their patients.
