MADISON – Today, Senator Jeff Smith (D – Brunswick), Senator Chris Larson (D – Milwaukee) and their Democratic Assembly colleagues, introduced the Pandemic School Stability Package. The two bills within this package aim to help schools adapt to the financial ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and provide additional statutory flexibility for students, teachers and school administrators.

“The Pandemic School Stability Package we introduced today will provide necessary support for our public schools,” said Senator Smith. “In response to the public health crisis, Governor Evers has established various financial assistance programs and resources to help Wisconsin communities. This legislative package builds off Governor Evers’ relief efforts and achieves his commitment to further invest in our public schools.

“Like so many other organizations and businesses, our school districts have been forced to navigate an ongoing pandemic with very little guidance from the Republican-controlled Legislature, despite their insistence a plan was coming.

“I’m proud to share this plan today to help local school districts. I hope this legislative proposal appeals to all of my legislative colleagues and the Majority Party decides to act. As Governor Evers often says, ‘What’s best for our kids, is what’s best for our state.’ These proposals will go a long way to support our schools and build our children up for success.”
