Madison, WI – In response to the Wisconsin State Fair Board’s decision to cancel the 2020 State Fair Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) issued the following statement:

“I am very disappointed by the Wisconsin State Fair Board’s decision to cancel the 2020 Fair.  The Wisconsin State Fair is an important institution in our state and I wish the board could have been more innovative and found a way to offer a safe 2020 Fair experience.”

“We all understand that in the current situation the Fair would be something different than it was in the past.  With appropriate sanitary considerations at the forefront, the Fair could have been modified and continued.  Unfortunately, no Fair at all appears to be the easy way out.  At its core, the State Fair is a tremendous opportunity for 4-H members and I was hopeful that the board could have found a way to go forward in some form and maintain the invaluable experience young people gain from the Fair each summer.”

“Given this decision, I certainly hope that county fairs and other local events are able to make necessary adjustments and persevere.  It is all about attitude, and a defeatist approach is not how we as Wisconsinites function.  These events represent the fabric of our communities and will help bring a sense of normalcy for Wisconsin residents in these uncertain times.”
