[Madison, WI]  Late on Friday afternoon, Governor Evers vetoed four bills from the Republican tougher on crime agenda. Following the vetoes, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“Republicans in the Legislature took the issue of crime in our communities seriously when we passed a number of tougher-on-crime bills. Unfortunately, Governor Evers did not share the same concern for the safety of Wisconsinites and vetoed many of our measures today.

“The governor over promised on the campaign trail when he said he wanted to cut Wisconsin’s prison population in half, and now he’s forcing Wisconsin to suffer the dangerous consequences. We can’t put a price tag on keeping communities safe from the types of repeat, violent offenders who we see in the news all too often. The governor’s veto is a mistake.”

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represents the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.
