MADISON – In the midst of a global pandemic, Senator Testin (R-Stevens Point) is playing
political games at the expense of public health. Despite rising COVID-19 cases and deaths, Sen. Testin has released a statement opposing a life saving measure that would require people to wear masks and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, Senator Testin has a failing record of being the leading voice on health issues for Wisconsinites,” said SSDC Executive Director Eric LaGesse. “He has blocked legislation to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions, and has voted against legislation to lower insulin costs, improve birth outcomes and expand medicaid coverage. Now to make matters worse, in the midst of a global pandemic, he is opposed to a simple and easy safety measure that could prevent the spread of COVID-19 and save lives. It’s time Senator Testin puts the health and well being of his constituents before his own vendetta to undermine the Governor.”

As of July 30th there are 940 positive cases of COVID-19 and five deaths in counties represented by Senator Testin, per the Department of Health Services website.
