Madison, WI-Today, Judge Chris Taylor announced her candidacy for election to the Dane County Circuit Court, Branch 12, for the upcoming Spring elections and launched her campaign website. Judge Taylor has been the presiding judge in this branch since the beginning of August after her appointment by Governor Tony Evers following Justice Jill Karofsky’s election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Judicial appointments are typically up for election in the following spring election. The Spring primary is on February 16, 2021 and the general election on April 6, 2021. The Spring election season formally kicks off today, when candidates can begin circulating nomination papers due January 5th.
“It has been my honor to serve the people of Dane County as a circuit court judge,” stated Taylor. “I hope to earn their support in this next election as I continue to work every day to ensure that the judiciary remains an independent, fair branch of government. The people of my county, and throughout the state, deserve a justice system that works for all.”
Taylor has lived in Wisconsin for most of her adult life. A native of California, she obtained her undergraduate degree in 1990 from the University of Pennsylvania, and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1995. She practiced law at several small law firms, including the former law firm of now Judge Lynn Adelman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. She is the former policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, and served almost nine years in the state legislature representing the 76th Assembly District, where she championed policies to improve people’s lives and enhance their rights.
“I have dedicated my professional career to working for fairness, equity and justice,” stated Taylor. “And I bring this commitment to the judiciary every day. It is more important than ever that the judiciary be the independent forum where fairness, facts and reason prevail.”
