Washington, DC— Following reports that the Administration is planning to end funding for community-based testing sites across the country at the end of the month, and with the number of positive COVID-19 cases surging in western Wisconsin, Rep. Ron Kind sent a letter urging the Administration to expand testing throughout Wisconsin and the country. In the last few weeks, new COVID-19 cases have spiked in La Crosse and Eau Claire counties after the state began reopening. The public health department in La Crosse County has reported a 607% increase in new cases.
“With new COVID-19 cases increasing, I am deeply concerned that any efforts to slow testing will only put more lives at risk,” said Rep. Kind. “Reducing access to testing will make it more difficult for Wisconsinites to get a prompt diagnosis and access to the care they need. We must prioritize testing in order to keep Wisconsinites safe and healthy.”
Rep. Kind is urging all Wisconsinites, whether they feel sick or not, to wear a facial covering when out in public, stay six feet away from others, wash hands frequently, and continue following the guidance from our county and state health officials.
