What happened to Jacob Blake is unacceptable. Tawni and I are praying for Jacob and his family as he fights for his life in the hospital.
A thorough and independent investigation into this incident must be conducted. It’s clear from yesterday’s devastating events and from conversations I’ve had over the past months with constituents from all walks of life that we need to take action now. We must implement common-sense reforms that ensure equality and justice for all Americans, and I encourage leaders on all sides not to turn this tragedy into another partisan fight. Rest assured, I will continue to stand with our peaceful protesters who are once again demanding the change our country so badly needs.
