La Crosse, WI – Today, following a tour of the La Crosse Post Office, Rep. Ron Kind held a news conference with Gary Knudtson, a retired member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, to discuss issues facing the United States Postal Service (USPS) and protecting the service for all Wisconsinites.
“Especially during these difficult times, Wisconsin seniors, veterans, small business owners, and families are counting on the United States Postal Service,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “The postal system provides an important link for rural communities and the last thing we can afford as a country is to politicize this service. It’s crucial to ensure that Wisconsinites can rely on the USPS to deliver medications, ballots, paychecks, and correspondences, and I will continue to fight to preserve the USPS.”
Last week, Rep. Kind joined 193 of his colleagues in calling on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to ensure mail delivery would not be impacted by the recently announced modifications to the USPS’s organizational structure and operations.
In May, Rep. Kind voted for the HEROES Act, which allocated $25 billion in emergency funds to the USPS and added further protections for postal workers. Additionally, he signed a letter to House Leadership requesting the USPS be given direct relief to maintain service standards and keep Area Mail Processing facilities open and is a cosponsor of the Protect Our Post Offices Act, which would provide $25 billion to support USPS operations during the COVID-19 crisis.
