JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN—Today at Mercyhealth Hospital in Janesville, Bryan Steil honored Dr. Frank Brodkey of Milton as Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s Health Care Professional of the Year. Steil also recognized Emily Bundy, RN, of Janesville, Casey Stubbs, RN and Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator, of Janesville, and the COVID-19 unit team as Health Care Heroes.
“Today we celebrated our local health care workers. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, health care workers have gone above and beyond to combat coronavirus. Dr. Brodkey, Emily, and Casey have played a critical role in fighting coronavirus, caring for their patients, and ensuring information on coronavirus is available to our community. They sacrifice time away from family, work holidays and extended hours, and put their patients first. I was honored to recognize them for their efforts and sacrifices,” said Steil.

Dr. Frank Brodkey, intensivist, works in the ICU at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center–Janesville and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UW-Madison. Dr. Brodkey has led the charge against coronavirus here in Janesville, and has published several scientific reviews of COVID-19 studies to help countless doctors find best practices and best course of treatment.
Emily Bundy, RN, is a nurse at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center–Janesville and is the lead nurse of the hospital’s COVID-19 unit. When Emily was notified that she received the Health Care Hero award, she wanted to give it to her entire floor and ensure her colleagues were also recognized for their tireless work. Emily is described as a dedicated professional who has so much compassion that there is little room for her own needs.
Casey Stubbs, RN, is a nurse and Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator for Mercyhealth. Casey’s role has been instrumental in the fight against coronavirus. Casey has been tasked with providing the latest information on coronavirus to physicians, staff, and patients. At the peak of the crisis, Casey was simultaneously on her desk phone, her cell phone, writing email responses, and had a line of people outside of her door with questions, never failing to help and answer questions.
Recipients were selected by Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s Health Care Advisory Board comprised of health care professionals across Southeast Wisconsin. The Health Care Advisory Board evaluated nominees on the following criteria:
- Displays exemplary service and performance in their profession
- Upholds the standard of providing unsurpassed care and treatment for their patients
- Goes above and beyond the call of duty in performing their responsibilities
- Displays self-sacrifice and selflessness in caring for others
