WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Bryan Steil released a video on his commitment to supporting law enforcement and opposition to the “defunding the police” movement. Last week, Steil joined the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for a ride along and met with members from the Muskego, Racine, and Williams Bay police departments. The men and women in law enforcement protect our communities.
They wake up every morning and go to work, not knowing what the day will bring.
I have seen firsthand the challenges our law enforcement face every day.
I joined a sheriff’s deputy from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for a ride along.
Within minutes of getting into the cruiser, a call came through the airwaves.
Shots were fired and a police officer’s car had been hit.
Law enforcement responds to life and death situations.
I commend their courage and am grateful for their service.
To my colleagues calling to defund the police, I encourage you to go on a ride along with your local law enforcement department.
Constructive acts and dialogue will serve our communities well.
We must listen, learn, and work towards a more perfect union.
I have had the honor of meeting many of our great law enforcement officers in Southeast Wisconsin.
They risk their lives to protect ours.
I do not support defunding the police.
We must stand with our men and women in law enforcement.
