WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Bryan Steil released a video on his commitment to supporting law enforcement and opposition to the “defunding the police” movement. Last week, Steil joined the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for a ride along and met with members from the Muskego, Racine, and Williams Bay police departments. Steil’s remarks:
The men and women in law enforcement protect our communities.
They wake up every morning and go to work, not knowing what the day will bring.
I have seen firsthand the challenges our law enforcement face every day.
I joined a sheriff’s deputy from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for a ride along.
Within minutes of getting into the cruiser, a call came through the airwaves.
Shots were fired and a police officer’s car had been hit.
Law enforcement responds to life and death situations.
I commend their courage and am grateful for their service.
To my colleagues calling to defund the police, I encourage you to go on a ride along with your local law enforcement department.
Constructive acts and dialogue will serve our communities well.
We must listen, learn, and work towards a more perfect union.
I have had the honor of meeting many of our great law enforcement officers in Southeast Wisconsin.
They risk their lives to protect ours.
I do not support defunding the police.
We must stand with our men and women in law enforcement.
