Washington, DC —Today, Reps. Ron Kind (D-WI) and Tom Tiffany (R-WI) introduced bipartisan legislation to rename the post office at 430 S Knowles Avenue in New Richmond as the “Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson Post Office”. Supported by the full Wisconsin Congressional Delegation, this bill honors Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson, brothers from New Richmond who died fighting in World War II.

“Captain Robert Harmon and Private John Peirson made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation while serving in World War II,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “While no expression of gratitude will ever be enough, I am proud to honor these heroes and thank their family by designating the New Richmond Post Office in their names. Their legacy will forever be a shining example of bravery and commitment for us all.”

“Brothers and Wisconsinites, Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson, courageously served and died for our country during World War II,” said Rep. Tom Tiffany. “I am pleased to co-sponsor this bill to honor their sacrifices and continue their legacy in New Richmond.”

“We are thankful to Reps. Ron Kind and Tom Tiffany for their bipartisan leadership on efforts to rename the New Richmond Post Office after brothers Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson,” said the Harmon/Peirson Family. “This is indeed a big day for our family, but it’s a huge day for veterans. As it shows that our city, our state and our grateful nation have not and will not forget the sacrifices the men and women of our Armed Forces have made on behalf of all of us.”

Captain Harmon was shot down over France a week before the D-Day invasion in Europe. A year later, Captain Harmon’s half-brother, Private Peirson, was killed during the Easter Day assault on the island of Okinawa. Though Captain Harmon’s remains were never found, the brothers’ graves are next to each other at the Fort Snelling Military Cemetery in Minneapolis.

This effort is supported by the American Legion Butler-Harmon Post 80, St. Croix County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10818 and the New Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
