Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick led their colleagues in a bipartisan letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy asking for additional funding for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Surveillance for Emerging Threats to Mothers and Babies In response. Congresswoman Moore released the following statement:
“Right now, there is limited information about the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant people and their infants despite their vulnerability. The CDC’s Surveillance for Emerging Threats and Babies program was created during the Zika outbreak to close the data gap about the impacts of public health threats on moms and babies by helping gather information to better understand how these threats impact pregnant people and their babies.
We need to take care of our most vulnerable. Additional funding will help this program once again expand to all fifty states and provide information that will help us better understand and care for our moms and children,” said Congresswoman Gwen Moore.
