HAGER CITY, WI – Recently, Derrick Van Orden took part in a Wisconsin Public Radio interview in advance of his debate with Ron Kind on Monday, October 26.
Derrick made it clear that the people of the 3rd District are tired of career politicians like Ron Kind who lie for personal gain. Derrick specifically called out Kind’s deceiving ads. Derrick stated that he would never support a bill that does not include protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

Kealey Bultena: You’re running in favor of repealing the Affordable Care Act. If it is repealed, what do you want to see passed in its place?
Derrick Van Orden: Let me be super clear before we get to this question. Unfortunately, Ron Kind has been lying about my stance on preexisting conditions. I am a 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran and I have children with very serious orthopedic issues, which are preexisting conditions. So I will never sign on to any health care program unless there’s rock solid provisions to take care of folks with preexisting conditions.
I want to have a health care plan that makes sure we absolutely cover folks with preexisting conditions and that we move government out of private health care.
…KB: How do you want to see Congress and the president work together to figure [a COVID relief package] out?
DVO: What the president wants to see is a clean bill. He doesn’t want to see this wish list of the Green New Deal that has nothing to do with COVID relief. We have to stop playing politics with American people’s lives. And that’s exactly what I’ll do when I get to Washington, D.C.
I served for 26 years, 21 as a SEAL, I have five combat tours. And if we behaved like this in the SEAL teams, we wouldn’t be in the SEAL teams very long. So it’s time for a real change in Washington, D.C. and that simply is not Ron Kind; he has run his course. We’re done with that, we’re at a crisis point in our nation now. Just stop all this silliness and get to work for America.
