Madison, WI – Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) released the following radio address:

“This is State Senator Howard Marklein, representing the 17 th Senate District in southwestern Wisconsin. Almost exactly two months ago, I sat in my office at the State Capitol with broken windows. And it has happened again. On Tuesday morning, August 25th , I came into work to broken glass and vandalism in our capital city.

Now, every first floor window at the Capitol has been boarded up. And nearly every business around our Capitol square has done the same as we watch businesses, livelihoods and neighborhoods in Kenosha burn through the night.

My heart goes out to the citizens of Kenosha. There is absolutely no justification for the vandalism, destruction, rioting and looting that is taking place.

Unfortunately, some of our state’s leaders have waited far too long to call for peace and calm. They have not deployed enough National Guardsmen and women to support local law enforcement. Rather, they are capitulating to violent mobs.

The officer-involved shooting incident in Kenosha is still under investigation at the time of this address.

We must allow for thorough investigations before we react. This is how we provide justice for all.

People have lost their lives, businesses have been destroyed and livelihoods have been ruined before we even have the facts of this case. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the senseless destruction of our cities.

Even when we DO know the facts of this case, there is no excuse to destroy innocent lives and livelihoods. No excuse.”
