MADISON – Wisconsin Land+Water Conservation Association (WI Land+Water) Executive Director Matt Krueger issued the following statement in support of the package of flooding-related bills recently introduced by the Governor:
“On behalf of our 800 members in county land and water conservation departments and committees across the state, many of whom are dealing first-hand with the effects of extreme weather, WI Land+Water commends Governor Evers’ leadership in introducing this package of bills aimed at mitigating flood impacts.
“County land and water conservation departments are on the front lines of dealing with flooding and other climate-related impacts. As such, we’re encouraged that the Governor recommended increasing assistance for structural conservation practices that can make farms more resilient in the face of climate change, especially during this time of crisis in the agricultural community.
“Counties in every region of the state have been affected by flooding recently, and especially with so much rain over the past two years, it’s likely that the trend will continue in the future. It makes good sense for Wisconsin to be dealing head-on with the issue. Our members look forward to continuing to be a part of the discussion about how we can make Wisconsin’s infrastructure and landscape more resilient in the face of these changes.”
