MADISON – Wisconsin Conservation Voters today issued its endorsements for statewide and local candidates in the Spring 2020 elections, including Judge Jill Karofsky for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters – and its more than 40,000 members – understand that local and state elections are just as important, and often times more so, than national elections in advancing clean water, clean energy, healthy communities, and clean and open democracy.

“In the spring election it’s imperative that voters look at the entire ballot, not just a presidential primary candidate,” said Organizing and Political Director Seth Hoffmeister. “From county and school boards to city councils, voters can create profound change by supporting candidates who care about Wisconsin’s environment, particularly clean water and clean energy. These candidates do.”

Hoffmeister said Wisconsin Conservation Voters is proud to endorse 47 candidates in key races – from Supreme Court to city council to school board.

“Local communities are increasingly taking on the challenges of climate change and water pollution by crafting smart, locally focused policy,” Executive Director Kerry Schumann said. “It’s more important than ever that we elect candidates at every level of government to ensure local communities are served by the people living there first and foremost.”

Schumann pointed to communities like Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Eau Claire, Menomonie, Altoona, Wauwatosa, Dane County, and Brown County that have passed or are considering clean energy initiatives, and are now becoming state leaders in the fight against climate change.

Endorsement highlights include Judge Jill Karofsky for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice.

“We’re proud to endorse Judge Jill Karofsky for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice,” Schumann said. “Her commitment to rejecting partisan ideology, her deeply held Wisconsin values – like fairness and respect for others – and her experience make her the clear choice for our state’s highest court. We are deeply concerned that Justice Dan Kelly’s decisions are based on his political ideologies rather than the facts and the law.”

“We’re proud to endorse an array of well qualified candidates who are committed to ensuring Wisconsin has safe water to drink, sustainable energy, abundant natural resources, and healthy communities and families,” she added.
