(WISCONSIN) — Yesterday, ahead of Donald Trump’s reckless in-person event in Mosinee, WI-7 congressional candidate Tricia Zunker, along with a number of local leaders and small business owners, blasted Trump for his failed COVID-19 response that has hurt small businesses across the state and wrecked Wisconsin’s economy. Marathon County, where Mosinee is located, has seen a dramatic spike in COVID-19 cases, with the health department declaring the COVID activity level is “high,” meaning that there has been a “significant increase in cases in the past two weeks.”

Zunker joined a dairy farmer, retailer, and occupational therapist to discuss the effects of Trump’s first term in office and how it impacted people in Wisconsin… “It didn’t have to be bad at all. This pandemic was avoidable. Over 200,000 lives have been lost and that’s 200,000 grieving families.”… “There are countries where the leadership really stepped in, were proactive, got health care workers the things they need,” said Moothedan. “They put those mask mandates in place, there are such simple things that could’ve been done.”… “We’ve lost a lot of dairy farms in the state of Wisconsin and the best we get from the government is to send the Ag Secretary to Wisconsin and say, “get big or get out,” said Breitenmoser. “That’s not leadership. That’s not providing policy that makes sense.”

Ahead of Thursday’s event, Democrats focused their fire on the president’s handling of the pandemic. Polling shows most Americans disapprove of Trump’s response to COVID-19. In a press call Thursday morning, Zunker, who will face Tiffany again in November, and others emphasized Trump’s “failed” COVID-19 response. A statement from the Marathon County Democratic Party said “the president continues to downplay the severity of the pandemic by hosting super-spreader events for political photo-ops.”

WSAW:
President Trump’s response to COVID-19 has been a total failure. Had he listened to the experts, been honest with the American people and encouraged wearing masks immediately, we wouldn’t be in the situation we are in today,” Zunker stated… “Over 200,000 lives have been lost; that’s over 200,000 grieving families. President Trump and Rep. Tiffany need to get to work and stop holding these dangerous campaign events until the pandemic is over. They are putting Wisconsin lives at risk tonight with this event. “
