(Kimberly, WI) – October 9, 2020 – The Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) and the Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) thank the businesses, health care leaders, and state associations for launching the “Stop the COVID Spread!” Coalition.

The coalition’s mission to educate the public and advocate for utilization of basic measures to wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing is crucial to protect ourselves, our neighbors, and our state. The coalition is showing true leadership at a time when our local public health departments and healthcare systems are under considerable strain. We need everyone to understand how serious the situation is, and do their part to protect our communities.

There are numerous examples of local businesses that have already done great work to adapt business practices to protect the public. And local healthcare workers have been tirelessly working to care for our sick neighbors. We welcome the collective statewide leadership represented by the “Stop the COVID Spread!” Coalition in emphasizing the importance for everyone to follow their lead and do their part to fight COVID.

We look forward to working with the coalition’s members at a local level to prevent further spread, and we’re grateful for the coalition’s proactive and meaningful approach to highlight the fact that we need everyone’s help to get through this together.

Together, WPHA and WALHDAB represent over 1,200 public health professionals in communities across Wisconsin, striving to prevent, promote, and protect the citizens of the state. WPHA and WALHDAB actively engage in legislative advocacy and we are committed to promoting a healthy population and workforce.
