The public health measures implemented in the Governor’s Safer at Home Order have been key to our state’s efforts to protect health and safety. Everyone’s commitment to and diligent practicing of proven physical distancing measures has helped slow the spread of the COVID‐19 virus.

The Wisconsin Association for Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) as well as the Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) are grateful for Governor Evers’ announcement that Safer at Home will be extended to May 26.

Representing over 1,200 public health professionals statewide, WALHDAB and WPHA are dedicated to promoting and protecting public health in Wisconsin.

“We need to remain committed to sound, science‐based practice to make sure we sustain our progress to date and best position our communities for future growth and prosperity,” said David Pluymers, President of WPHA. “To do otherwise will only further delay our return to normal. By extending Safer at Home, we remain on track to a successful re‐opening of the state.”

WALHDAB and WPHA have public health professionals across the state who are working closely with their community partners to support and manage the public health measures outlined in the Governor’s order. This is not always easy for everyone, but nonetheless necessary. The work remains focused on what is needed to best prepare for a “smart re‐start” for all sectors of our state.

We are grateful for the leadership from Governor Evers and the Department of Health Services. We are also grateful for the legislatures’ work this week in passage of Assembly Bill 1038. We look forward to our work together to safely re‐start as soon as responsibly possible.
