WisDems: Key takeaways from Johnson’s combative interview with the Milwaukee Press Club

Madison, Wis. —  At today’s Milwaukee Press Club event, a combative Ron Johnson lashed out at reporters and doubled down on his anti-Wisconsin legislative agenda. Johnson made clear that he will continue to use his perch in the Senate to serve himself and not the Wisconsinites he was elected to represent. “Ron Johnson has become a creature of Washington. At every step, he does what’s best for him, and ignores the Wisconsinites he was elected to represent,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler said. “As Wisconsinites work to recover from the pandemic, Johnson continues to vote against legislation that would

MADISON –– Today, promising data highlighted that U.S. jobless claims dropped to a new pandemic-era low last week, and U.S. COVID-19 infections are down to the lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. Thanks to Gov. Evers’ and President Biden’s leadership, and despite Republicans obstructing pandemic relief, Wisconsin is on its way to bouncing back better than before. The Wisconsin unemployment rate is three times better than in 2020 and well below the national average. To ensure Wisconsin can fully recover, Gov. Evers has rolled out his Badger Bounceback agenda, and is distributing $420 million in American Rescue Plan funds to

Nate’s Mission: Archdiocese of Milwaukee defies Attorney General Kaul, district attorneys

Breaking ranks with bishops and Catholic officials in twenty-two other states where similar investigations have been opened, Archbishop Jerome Listecki of Milwaukee is publicly refusing to cooperate with the Wisconsin Attorney General and leading district attorneys investigating clergy sex crimes and institutional concealment. The archdiocese lied to Catholic families when they asserted that they have been cooperating with law enforcement. This week’s letter directly contradicts what they have claimed is their organization’s policy and practice. Like his predecessor, the liberal Archbishop Rembert Weakland, conservative Archbishop Listecki has claimed anti-Catholic bias as a defense against investigations into rape and abuse of

MILWAUKEE – County Supervisor Ryan Clancy is calling on County Executive David Crowley to dedicate a significant portion of Milwaukee County’s $183 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to a process called “decisive participatory budgeting” and $0 to law enforcement. “I appreciate County Executive Crowley’s framework for allocating the County’s ARPA funds. Emphasizing investing funds upstream to meet vital community needs is essential,” said Supervisor Clancy. “Within this framework, giving the public a direct voice in how these funds are spent will ensure that dollars go where they are most needed and will increase engagement with our budget process.” Decisive

Wisconsin Republicans are pushing Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ for another “fake election audit circus,” and Democratic Gov. Tony Evers is the only thing standing in their way. Trump and his supporters have lost dozens of lawsuits, including ones that went before judges nominated by Trump. But GOP Speaker Robin Vos is chasing Trump’s pipe dream by spending an undisclosed amount of taxpayer funds to entertain the former president’s baseless claims of election fraud. The absurd investigation into Wisconsin election results will be conducted by retired police officers, including a known conspiracy theorist who previously wrote a bogus report about voter fraud discredited by a federal judge.

MADISON – State Senator Van Wanggaard (R-RACINE) released the Weekly Radio Address on behalf of Wisconsin Republicans: Hello there.  I’m Senator Van Wanggaard, representing most of Racine and Kenosha Counties. I was a police officer for almost 30 years. That experience has taught me one thing that I absolutely know to be true – Wisconsin’s law enforcement officers do an outstanding job. For the last year, a few shouting voices have done nothing but tear down our police.  Our men and women in blue deserve your support.  The relationship between communities and the police did not deteriorate overnight, and it
