MILWAUKEE – Voces de la Frontera Action (VDLFA) is proud to have mobilized Black and Brown voters to turn out in Wisconsin’s Spring 2021 Elections, and today we celebrate historic victories. This marks our 5th election during a pandemic, and despite ongoing pandemic limitations, we were still able to mobilize our community to elect many of the progressive champions we endorsed.

The VDLFA Spring 2021 State Election Campaign had four key components: a statewide digital phonebank, a neighborhood canvass in two key cities, our relational voter program Voceros por el Voto, and a strong Election Day GOTV volunteer effort. Combining positive IDS from the phonebank, the neighborhood canvass and the Voceros por el Voto program, we secured a total of 3,063 positive IDs for Dr. Jill Underly for State Superintendent. This surpassed our goal by over 1,000 IDs. Today we congratulate Dr. Underly in her win, as well as all twelve of our endorsed candidates, eleven of whom were women and seven of whom were elected.

Fabi Maldonado, the Voces de la Frontera Action Political Director, said: “Voces de la Frontera Action played a critical role in electing Auntavia Jackson, who will be the very first Black woman to serve on the Racine School Board. She will be the only person of color to represent that board. We also helped Racine County go blue for the first time in over a decade. With Southeast Wisconsin being one of the worst places for African Americans to grow up in the country, this is a historic moment for Racine county and for the Black Lives Matter movement in Wisconsin.”
