PHILADELPHIA — Today, 314 Action Fund announced its endorsement of former science teacher Gov. Tony Evers in his 2022 gubernatorial re-election race. Evers, a former science teacher in Wisconsin public schools, won in 2018 and unseated former Gov. Scott Walker.

“Wisconsin has had a formidable champion for truth, facts and progress at the helm for the last four years, and they deserve Governor Tony Evers’ smart, responsible leadership for another four,” said Shaughnessy Naughton, president of 314 Action. “As a lifetime educator, Governor Evers has fought hard to put Wisconsin’s children first and has expanded funding to the state’s strong public schools. He has been a tireless advocate for the people of Wisconsin during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has led through data and responsible management. With a messy GOP primary on the horizon, it’s clear that Gov. Evers’ comprehensive record and clear dedication to Wisconsinites will see him win once more next November.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of 314 Action Fund in my re-election campaign,” said Gov. Tony Evers. “As a former public school science teacher myself, and as someone who listens to facts and evidence when I am making decisions about the future of our great state, I know how important it is to have science-minded leaders in office. I look forward to continuing to work for the people of Wisconsin as we fight to make sure we bounce back better than ever before, with stronger public schools, better roads and infrastructure, and an economy that works for everyone.”

314 Action Fund, which aims to elect scientists and candidates with STEM backgrounds to office, has significant resources to spend on electing pro-science candidates in states across the country. In the 2020 cycle, 314 Action Fund’s independent expenditure arm spent over $11.5 million, including in Wisconsin, one of the organization’s targeted states for state legislatures that cycle. With 314 Action Fund’s help, Sara Rodriguez flipped a Republican seat red to blue, which helped protect Evers’ veto.

In 2022, 314 Action Fund will aim to spend $50 million to elect scientists across all levels of government, with initial targets of seven U.S. Senate races, forty U.S. House races, and twenty-one statewide races — including the Wisconsin gubernatorial race. In 2020, the organization spent $25 million on behalf of its endorsed candidates and raised a total of $5 million in grassroots donations for scientists running for office.
