MADISON — Today, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC endorsed Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and his historic candidacy for the United States Senate in Wisconsin.

Barnes was elected the state’s first Black Lieutenant Governor in 2018, and he would be the first Black Senator from Wisconsin. If elected, Barnes would join only three other Black Senators actively serving, and he would be the 12th Black American ever elected to the U.S. Senate.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of the Congressional Black Caucus PAC,” said Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes. “Chairman Meeks and the entire Black Caucus have been steadfast leaders for communities like the Milwaukee neighborhood that I grew up in. As the former Chairman of the Legislative Black and Latino Caucus here in Wisconsin, I know how important it is to have leaders that reflect the experiences and priorities of working Wisconsinites. In the U.S. Senate, I’ll work with the CBCPAC to deliver good-paying jobs, take action on climate change, and create avenues of opportunity for every community across Wisconsin.”

“The CBCPAC is proud to endorse Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes and his historic candidacy for the United States Senate in Wisconsin,” said CBC PAC Chairman Gregory Meeks (NY-5). “Mandela grew up in a proud union home, and he’s been a champion for equity, opportunity, and middle-class families across Wisconsin ever since. Mandela is going to make history as the first Black Senator from Wisconsin and defeat Senator Ron Johnson, who sides with conspiracy theorists and the well-connected over the people of Wisconsin. We know Mandela will bring his passion and dedication with him to Washington, where he’ll fight to create opportunity in every corner of the state.”

The CBC PAC endorsement comes as Mandela Barnes continues to build a diverse, statewide coalition to defeat Ron Johnson and deliver for Wisconsin working families. The CBC PAC joins Senator Elizabeth Warren, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi, mayors, legislators, and local elected officials from across Wisconsin, End Citizens United, Collective PAC, Democracy for America, MoveOn, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, the Working Families Party, People for the American Way, and the Democratic Lieutenant Governor’s Association in their endorsement of Barnes.
