City of Racine – Today, Mayor Cory Mason announced that the City has hired Alderman Trevor Jung to be the City’s next Transit Manager, which will fill the position currently held by Michael Maierle who is retiring. Alder Jung will step down from the Common Council effective the close of business on Friday, August 27th and start his new role with the City on Monday, August 30th.
“I am excited to have Trevor become the new face of public transit in Racine. Trevor has always been an advocate for and passionate about transportation equity, sustainability, and community building. He has a proven record of improving systems and services through collaboration, public engagement, and research. And he understands that we need a modernized multimodal transportation system that is built through regional planning and with intergovernmental partnership,” said City of Racine Mayor Cory Mason.
During the competitive interview process Trevor demonstrated an understanding of the challenges public transit currently faces and a vision on how to create a robust system that benefits all residents regionally. Trevor has a degree in Urban Studies for the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. As Alderman he currently serves the Chair of the Transit Commission and has championed technological advancements in transit, regionalism, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. As an advocates, Trevor also serves on the boards of 1000 Friends of Wisconsin and All Aboard Wisconsin, and was an Eastern Racine County Transportation Task Force Member.
“I look forward to continuing my public service as Transit Manager for the City of Racine. Modernizing our transportation assets and infrastructure is instrumental to the health and economic vitality of our community. Racine has the opportunity to better connect workers with jobs, reduce our carbon footprint, and attract the next generation of talent through a modernized transit system,” said Trevor Jung.
Jung continued, “It has been the honor of my life to represent the residents of the 9th District on the Common Council. I will be forever grateful for their trust and support. Serving as an Alder in the community I love has been an education and a privilege.”
Following Alderman Jung’s resignation, the Common Council will determine how to fill the vacant 9th aldermanic seat.
