[Waukesha County, Wisconsin] Joe Handrick, a former Republican state lawmaker, has been hired as the Executive Director of Common Sense Wisconsin.
“We are incredibly pleased to bring Joe Handrick on board to help guide our young, eager organization as we work to improve Wisconsin government,” said CS Wisconsin, Inc. Board Member Jason Plante. “Joe Handrick is not only a respected political figure and data analyst, he brings a vast amount of front-line public policy experience to the table as well.”
Handrick presently serves as an advisor to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos. In addition to representing Vilas and Oneida Counties in the State Assembly from 1995-2001, Handrick has previously served as the Town Chairman of Minocqua. He was also an administrator for former Governor Scott Walker, heading the Equal Rights and Unemployment Insurance divisions.Two years after graduating Lakeland High School and prior to his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Handrick began his career in public policy as an aide to former Governor Tommy Thompson.
“It’s been my honor to serve the citizens of the North and all of Wisconsin through my public service,” Handrick said. “Common Sense Wisconsin will also help this state by championing innovative, effective policies, and I’m excited to build and lead this team.”
Handrick’s breadth and depth of experience with state and local government will help Common Sense Wisconsin develop and promote it’s 3E agenda for the current legislative session.
The 3 E agenda focuses on efficiencies, education reform and election integrity.
1. Efficiencies
We must improve access to and delivery of services aimed at improving the quality of life for Wisconsin residents. Government need not be big, but it must work.
2. Education reform
A foundational element of a healthy society is a strong educational environment that maximizes parental involvement and learning options. Wisconsin should invest in students, not systems. Our laws and regulations should foster innovation and reward success.
3. Election integrity
Wisconsinites must have faith in the process by which they elect their representatives. We neither accept baseless accusations of fraud, nor the willful refusal of regulatory agencies to enforce Constitutionally-sound election laws.
CS Wisconsin, Inc. launched Common Sense Wisconsin earlier this Spring to be a platform for advancing policy ideas to increase the efficacy and responsiveness of Wisconsin government.
Handrick will assume his role with the organization next month.
