MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today delivered the Democratic Radio Address highlighting new investments announced earlier this week in American Rescue Plan dollars providing $45 million into ensuring safer communities through violence prevention and support for crime victims.

Hey, folks. Governor Tony Evers here.

I’m proud of our work to build a state that works for everyone, and that means safe schools, safe streets, and safe communities.

That’s why we’re working to address the cycle of violence and crime that has for too long gone uninterrupted. Much like the pandemic, this is another public health crisis that deserves our attention and our action.

This week I announced a $45 million investment of our federal American Rescue Plan Act funds in violence prevention efforts and crime victim services in Wisconsin.

Violence in our communities, like any public health issue, is not inevitable, and that’s why we’re investing 25 million of these dollars toward stopping violence before it begins.

And, in addition to violence prevention, $20 million of this investment will go to help support victim and survivor services in Wisconsin.

The cycle of violence is not a foregone conclusion and today, we have the chance to interrupt the cycle and build the sort of future we want for our state.

This investment will build on our work to ensure an equitable economic recovery statewide—from supporting diverse businesses to expanding healthcare, childcare, and transportation services in underserved communities around the state.

As our state and our economy continue to bounce back, we have the opportunity to not just recover from the pandemic but to build the sort of future we want for our state.

One that is just, equitable, and works for everyone in every ZIP code.

Thank you.
