Milford, Conn. (December 20, 2021) — Today, Democrats Serve — a national hybrid political action committee (PAC) that supports Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds — is endorsing Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski in her run for U.S. Senate against the incumbent Republican Ron Johnson.

Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski — who served as a director in county government and spent nearly a decade working with the Pentagon to help curb wasteful spending — is an excellent example of a Democrat running for office with frontline public service experience who can excel as a candidate and a policymaker.

“At Democrats Serve, we’re thrilled to support Sarah Godlewski’s U.S. Senate bid in Wisconsin,” said Broesder. “From improving Army readiness as a contract project manager for the U.S. Department of Defense to bolstering accountability as state treasurer, Sarah Godlewski has a proven track record of public service and getting things done for Wisconsin families. That’s why we’re supporting Sarah and look forward to helping her win in 2022.”

Sarah Godlewski, who currently serves as Wisconsin’s State Treasurer, notes that she’s thrilled to receive Democrats Serve’s endorsement.

“I’m proud to receive the support of Democrats Serve. My parents were both public school teachers, my grandmother was part of the first group of women who served during World War II, public service is at the core of who I am, and I have been proud to follow in my family’s footsteps in serving my fellow Wisconsinites,” said State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski. “Ron Johnson is serving himself and his biggest donors, not Wisconsin. We deserve a Senator fighting to lower costs for working families, and that’s exactly what I’ll do so we can finally return this seat to the people of our state.”

Democrats Serve supports candidates with public service backgrounds, some of whom lack national donor network access.

After launching in May, the organization endorsed 27 candidates nationwide who were running for state and local office in 2021. Every single candidate endorsed by the group won their respective elections.

For the 2022 midterms, the PAC has made endorsements nationwide in competitive elections, including: U.S. Senate Candidates Cheri Beasley (NC), Val Demings (FL); U.S. House Candidates Aramis Ayala (FL-10), Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Matt Castelli (NY-21), Valerie Foushee (NC-06), Kara Hahn (NY-01), Jonathan Logemann (IL-17), Ruben Ramirez (TX-15), Tony Vargas (NE-2); Incumbent House Democrats Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Andy Kim (NJ-03), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01), Katie Porter (CA-45), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Susan Wild (PA-07), Lauren Underwood (IL-14); and Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Hobbs (AZ) and Seth Magaziner (RI).

Broesder also said that the group is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with public safety and justice system experience.

“Republicans in Washington, including Ron Johnson, are turning their backs on law enforcement by opposing bipartisan investigations into what role politics played in allowing insurrectionists to kill a Capitol Police officer,” said Broesder. “Ron Johnson has made his priorities clear: appeasing right-wing extremists trumps law and order. Wisconsin deserves better. That’s why electing Democrat Sarah Godlewski, who knows first-hand what it means to serve her communities in government, is critical to safeguarding our democracy.”

Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government — at the federal, state, and local levels — including teachers, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
