MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) welcomes Wisconsin Specialty Recycling as a Tier 1 participant in the state’s Green Tier program.

The DNR’s Green Tier program recognizes organizations committed to going above and beyond compliance to continually improve their environmental performance using an environmental management system. Tier 1 of Green Tier encourages, recognizes and rewards companies committed to superior environmental performance.

Wisconsin Specialty Recycling is an electronics recycler that prioritizes reuse and upcycling electronic devices and components in a concerted effort to reduce the stream of end-of-life e-waste.

As a Tier 1 participant, Wisconsin Specialty Recycling commits to developing an ISO 14001 certified environmental management system within their first year in the program. ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted certification standard for businesses to manage and improve their environmental impacts.

“The department welcomes Wisconsin Specialty Recycling to the Green Tier program,” said Darsi Foss, DNR Environmental Management Division Administrator. “We look forward to partnering with the company as they focus on improving the environmental impacts of the electronics industry by promoting a reuse-first approach to electronics recycling.”

The company’s future goals include conducting energy audits to monitor and improve energy use, enhancing building efficiencies for heating and cooling and implementing a full solar installation by 2025, with a self-contained battery system sourced from recycled e-waste.

“I’m excited to be on the tip of the spear towards conservation and environmental responsibility in my state,” said Tristan Myhre, owner of Wisconsin Specialty Recycling. “I’ve joined Green Tier because I believe in the mission of working towards a sustainable future.”
