MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced that its Mobile Career Lab will be set up at various vaccination sites in Wisconsin, with its first location at Alliant Energy Center, one of Wisconsin’s busiest COVID-19 vaccination and testing centers, located at 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way in Madison. The Mobile Career Lab helps connect individuals with hiring employers and training opportunities that allow them to pursue new career pathways.

The Mobile Career Lab will serve the emergency activated temporary employees who have worked tirelessly to support Wisconsin residents by providing immunizations. It will also provide services to the general public coming to the site to receive their vaccinations.

“Vaccination provides a hope for the return back to ‘normal’ and DWD is ready to help the general public and those who have been working the vaccination sites take the next step in their careers ” said DWD Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek. “The Mobile Career Lab is literally meeting people where they are, making it easier for them to access critical resources and connect with potential employers.”

Mobile Career Lab will provide:

  • Job search assistance: resume review, help with job applications, improving interview skills, etc.
  • Career exploration
  • Connections to local employers and job openings
  • Re-employment services
  • Labor market information and resources for employers and job seekers
  • Workshops to assist job seekers with resumes, interview techniques, and other work search skills
  • Technical assistance and liaison services to employers in recruitment and workforce retention planning
  • Veteran job service assistance
  • Workforce displacement job service assistance

The Mobile Career Lab has Wi-Fi capabilities and 10 computers, with four additional computers that can be set up on tables outside. There are two large TVs inside the lab, and one TV outside, that can be used by DWD staff to provide presentations or technical assistance services for customers.

To provide continued COVID-19 safety precautions, the lab will be set up to have two doors open at all times for ventilation. Two to three people at time will be permitted inside to use the computers for JobCenterofWisconsin.com registration and there will be four computers outside for use to allow for social distancing. Masks will be required to be worn, as well as the use of hand sanitizer, before entering or using any computer. DWD staff will sanitize the workspace after each use.
