DNR secretary urges Joint Finance to support agency efforts to clean up PFAS

DNR Secretary Preston Cole implored the Joint Finance Committee today to support agency efforts to clean up PFAS, arguing contamination is a threat to the state’s health, economy and sporting heritage.
Cole warned the effort would likely take at least a decade to address, but argued clean water is “foundational to who we are.”
“Allow us to do the work that needs to occur,” Cole urged.
Gov. Tony Evers’ budget includes a host of provisions to address PFAS, which are found in firefighting foam, nonstick surfaces and cookware, and paint. The chemical is toxic to humans and doesn't easily degrade. ...
