Madison, WI – Today, Empower Wisconsin announced the release of two network television ads holding Gov. Tony Evers accountable for his failed leadership during last year’s riots that ravaged Kenosha. The videos feature two Kenosha residents who, thanks to Evers’ failure to protect the city from lawlessness, were forced to helplessly watch as rioters ruined their businesses.
“On the one-year anniversary of the Kenosha riots, it’s time to hold Gov. Evers accountable for the destruction,” Empower Wisconsin Spokesman Stephan Thompson said. “For three straight nights, Kenosha was burning. Local and federal leaders were pleading for help and Evers ignored it. Once again when Wisconsinites needed protection, Tony Evers failed to lead.”
The Empower Wisconsin ads introduce Kenosha residents, Kimberly and Scott. Kimberly’s business was badly damaged; Scott’s was burned to the ground.
“As a mother, we were scared and we were hoping and hoping that help would come, and night after night it didn’t come. And that is hard to explain to kids, ‘Why isn’t Gov. Evers sending the help?’ I didn’t have an answer,” Kimberly said.
Scott’s family started their Kenosha business 42 years ago. “If I could talk to Tony Evers, I would ask him, ‘Where were you? Why weren’t you there for us? Why did our businesses burn to the ground?’” he said.
