MILWAUKEE— Sachin Chheda, director at the Fair Elections Project, issued the following statement in response to the revised People’s Maps Commission draft maps released Wednesday afternoon:

“We are pleased that the People’s Maps Commission continues an open, fair, and transparent process with the release of a new set of drafts. Redistricting is the most important issue affecting our state every ten years, and the People’s Maps process demonstrates we can have open, honest government here in Wisconsin.

“It’s critical to note that we must prioritize allowing traditionally underrepresented communities to elect representatives of their choice. The Voting Rights Act demands no less. We look forward to analyses of these maps with those concerns in mind.

“Speaker Vos and Leader LeMahieu should take this opportunity to hear the voices of Wisconsinites, a huge majority of whom want the Legislature to take up independently-drawn maps.”
