Franklin, WI: Forward Latino, a national non-profit, non-partisan advocacy and service organization with members and affiliates in 29 states supports President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better framework and continues to call for legislation that will provide lawful status for DREAMers, Essential Workers and New Americans.

Forward Latino National President Darryl Morin issued the following statement:

“We are pleased that the administration and both houses of the United States Congress have achieved a consensus on provisions to be included in the Build Back Better framework announced by President Biden this morning. This Build Back Better framework will make historic investments in human infrastructure while paving the way for the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Combined, these bills will strengthen our nation’s economy and create new opportunities for all. The framework will provide universal preschool and expand access to quality healthcare. It will also make historic investments to combat climate change, in workforce development and in Hispanic Serving Institutions. The framework will begin to open pathways to the American Dream for individuals in our nation’s Hispanic community who have been denied access for far too long.

While the framework provides $100 billion dollars to reduce the immigration backlog and to modernize immigration systems, we continue to expect this administration and congress to fulfill their pledge to address our broken immigration system, and pass legislation that will provide a pathway to legal residence for those deemed “essential”, for those brought to our country for no fault of their own, as well as for our newest Americans who have proven themselves to be outstanding citizens by every measure, but for a piece of paper. If the law states that immigrants must pay their taxes (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/internationaltaxpayers/introduction-to-residency-under-us-tax-law ), and if the law states that immigrants must serve in uniform if called up in the defense of our nation (https://www.sss.gov/register/immigrants/) , then the law must allow them to be lawfully present in the United States of America.”
