16 Western Wisconsin Leaders Endorse Sarah Godlewski for U.S. Senate

Strong support from Sarah’s hometown and neighboring communities is the latest sign of growing momentum for her 72-county grassroots campaign

Today, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski – a 5th generation Wisconsinite born and raised in Eau Claire – announced the endorsements from 16 leaders across western Wisconsin. The endorsers include state legislators, local elected officials, county Democratic leaders, and DNC Member Andrew Werthmann.

The deep support across western Wisconsin and from Sarah’s hometown is just the latest sign of her growing momentum as the strongest candidate who can beat Ron Johnson, and also is a reflection of her proven record of delivering results for communities across our state.

“Growing up in western Wisconsin shaped who I am today. I’m so honored to have the support from this incredible group of leaders who are ensuring that our communities continue to be some of the best places to receive a public education, raise a family, recreate, and retire,” said State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski. “Wisconsinites deserve so much better than Ron Johnson, who’s more focused on conspiracy theories than working families. As State Treasurer, I’m proud of our work to step up during tough times and support communities across all 72 counties – and that’s exactly what I’m going to do as Senator.”

When the pandemic hit, her Treasurer’s Homeownership Task Force quickly stepped up and launched a Foreclosure Prevention Program in La Crosse to help keep Wisconsinites from being kicked out of their homes. As Chair of a $1.2 billion state trust fund, Sarah has helped invest over $6 million directly into western Wisconsin communities for projects including broadband expansion, school HVAC systems, and infrastructure repairs since the start of the pandemic.

The 16 western Wisconsin endorsements include:

Andrew Werthmann, Wisconsin DNC Member and Eau Claire City Council Member: “After a decade of Ron Johnson refusing to stand up for places like Eau Claire, we need a new Senator with a proven record of supporting our communities, and that candidate is Sarah. She was there for us before she ran for Treasurer, has delivered for us after she got elected, and as our next Senator, will get the job done for us in Washington.”

Jeff Smith, State Senator for District 31: “Sarah is much more than just Eau Claire, she’s more than just a person who saved the Treasurer’s office – she has all the qualifications we need in our next U.S. Senator. As Treasurer, she’s shown up, fought for us, and gotten things done, because that’s who she is. I’m so excited to endorse her campaign for Senate.”

Jodi Emerson, State Representative for District 91: “Sarah is not only a friend of mine but also a mentor. We’ve worked on numerous issues together over the past few years in the State Capitol. We come up with ideas and then we roll up our sleeves and figure out how to get things done. That’s exactly the kind of CAN DO attitude we need in our next U.S. Senator.”

Chris Hambuch-Boyle, Eau Claire County Board Member and former School Board President speaking as an individual: “Coming out of this pandemic, we have to use this as an opportunity to ensure our government is squarely focused on supporting our communities and building a strong future for kids. Sarah’s been a terrific partner and leader in working to make that change. We need Sarah in the U.S. Senate.”

Catherine Emmanuelle, Vice-President of the Eau Claire City Council: “Sarah’s grit, heart, and smarts are already making a positive impact for all Wisconsinites. She’s ready to take her solution-focused leadership to Washington. I’m proud to be on Team Sarah all the way to D.C.!”

Emily Berge, Eau Claire City Council Member: “I am supporting Sarah because she is smart and engaged. She is determined and knows not only what to do but how to do it. And best of all, she truly cares about people and I know she would represent Wisconsin so well.”

Tara Johnson, former La Crosse County Board Chair and Supervisor: “Ron Johnson is an embarrassment. He is completely out of touch with the people of Wisconsin and does not reflect our values! Sarah Godlewski will be an excellent US Senator for Wisconsin! She is wicked smart, hard working and her experience has prepared her well for the job. And, she’s a fifth generation Badger! Sarah is everything we need in a Senator and more! It is an absolute privilege for me to endorse Sarah Godlewski to be the next US Senator from the great state of Wisconsin!”

Bill Hogseth, former Chair of Dunn County Democrats and rural community advocate: “Wisconsin’s rural areas and small towns need somebody who’s gonna take the time to show up and listen so that they can understand what are the challenges that are facing our rural areas in Wisconsin, so that they can go to Washington and be our voice. Sarah Godlewski is definitely that person.”
