In her first major speech as a candidate for Senator, Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski spoke at the WisDems Convention on Sunday morning making a clear case on why she’s the candidate who can unite Wisconsinites to beat Ron Johnson and deliver results for workers and families in Washington.

After opening her speech by toasting Wisconsin Democrats with a Bloody Mary for their hard-earned victories, Sarah delivered “some of the sharpest attacks on [Ron] Johnson” for losing touch with Wisconsin and peddling dangerous conspiracy theories and Trumpism, instead of putting Wisconsinites first and doing what’s best for our state.

As a 5th generation Wisconsinite, working mom, former small business owner, and State Treasurer, Sarah understands the challenges facing our state. She’ll use those unique perspectives to fight for kitchen table issues like combating climate change, creating a more inclusive economy, protecting our rural and farm traditions, and defending voting rights – and she’ll get rid of the filibuster to get it done.

Here’s what Wisconsinites are reading about Sarah’s WisDems Convention speech:

From the Wisconsin State Journal:

“Godlewski, with a Bloody Mary in hand, touted her belief in science, rejection of conspiracies and work promoting ‘kitchen table issues,’ such as affordable child care and paid family leave.

She knocked what she views as the current ‘Swiss Cheese tax system’ that benefits corporations and the wealthy, and said she wants to get rid of the filibuster and pass landmark legislation protecting voting rights and democracy. She also vowed to support a $15 minimum wage.”

From the Associated Press:

“Godlewski, who raised a Bloody Mary during her Sunday morning address, said Democrats need to go on the offensive. She had some of the sharpest attacks on Johnson, who has emerged as one of former President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters.

‘Wisconsinites deserve far much better than McCarthyism 2.0,’ she said in reference to Johnson.”

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

“Sarah Godlewski: Took the most direct shots at Johnson, claiming ‘Wisconsinites deserve so much better than McCarthyism 2.0.’ Also spoke about her roots growing up in the state and her tenure as State Treasurer.

‘As a working mom, I understand the importance of affordable childcare and paid family leave,” she said. ‘Right now, the system is not built for moms or people of color, and I believe it’s because we don’t have a seat at the Senate table and I want to change that.'”

From Cap Times:

“’I learned early in life, when you see something wrong, you’ve got to stand up and do something about it. That’s why I’m getting in this race. Wisconsinites deserve so much better than McCarthyism 2.0,’ Godlewski said, referring to Johnson.

Godlewski — who raised a bloody mary toast during her remarks — was elected as state treasurer in 2018, after leading a bipartisan effort to save the office from elimination.”

From WisPolitics:

“State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski also took jabs at Johnson, saying, ‘Wisconsinites deserve so much better than McCarthyism 2.0,’ who she said is out of touch with reality. She said her immediate focus if elected to the position would be to get rid of the filibuster. Godlewski also said she would focus on passing legislation to protect voting rights, fund infrastructure projects and raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

‘I believe in fighting for kitchen table issues that will actually help working families,’ she said. ‘As a working mom, I understand the importance of affordable childcare and paid family leave. Right now the system is not built for moms and people of color.'”

From WDJT-TV:

‘”That’s the problem,’ Godlewski said during her speech. ‘Ron Johnson cares more about conspiracy theories and Trumpism than Wisconsinites and working families.'”
