MADISON –This morning, Wisconsin State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski is responding to comments Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made regarding the future of the Supreme Court by calling for Justice Stephen Breyer to retire.

POLITICO: He blocked a SCOTUS pick in 2016. And Mitch McConnell isn’t ruling out doing it again — in 2023, if he has control

Burgess asked McConnell how he’d approach a Biden Supreme Court pick if he takes back the majority next fall.

“Cross those bridges when I get there, we are focusing on ‘22. I don’t rule anything in or out about how to handle nominations if I’m in the majority position.” — Minority Leader Mitch McConnell

“With the balance of the Senate hanging on by one seat, Democrats can not afford to ignore this shot across the bow from the right. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer needs to retire. Mitch McConnell, Ron Johnson, and the GOP have already stolen two Supreme Court seats, we can’t allow them to steal another one,” said State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski. “We all need to be sounding the alarm on this. Democrats need to do everything we can to win next November but we can’t wait until then. We need to fill this seat now. If we don’t, reproductive rights, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, civil rights, and so much more will be even more at risk.”
