MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced his appointment of Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) President, Tim Sheehy, as Chair of the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District Board of Directors (District). Sheehy will succeed Don Smiley, who chose not to seek another term as Chair.
“Thanks to the hard work done by Tim and the MMAC to pass legislation to get this ballpark built, the city of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin have the baseball institution that we know and love,” said Gov. Evers. “I am confident that he will put that same kind of effort and determination into keeping American Family Field as one of the best ballparks in professional baseball.”
As MMAC President, Sheehy drew together a broad community coalition that played a critical role in passage of the legislation which resulted in the construction of then-Miller Park (now American Family Field). As a result, more than 50 million fans from all over Wisconsin and other parts of the country have attended baseball games at American Family Field/Miller Park. An independent study released by MMAC last year showed that the ballpark had generated $2.5 billion in economic output over the past 20 years, with much of that revenue coming from outside the metro-Milwaukee region.
“Wisconsin’s investment in this ballpark has paid tremendous dividends for metro Milwaukee and for all of Wisconsin,” said Sheehy. “I am honored to be selected by Governor Evers to serve as Chairman of the District Board of Directors. I look forward to building on Milwaukee’s reputation as a major league city by ensuring that American Family Field remains a premier entertainment destination that baseball fans can enjoy for generations to come.”
