Hunter Nation released the following statement on a Dane County judge’s decision today to grant an injunction halting a hunt of the gray wolf that is clearly provided for under state law and the Wisconsin Constitution:
“With only three weeks until the wolf hunt is to open, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources must acknowledge state law and immediately appeal this case to the Wisconsin Supreme Court to get this matter cleared up,” Hunter Nation President and CEO Luke Hilgemann said. “The Evers administration and Attorney General Kaul must stop following the marching orders of the radical anti-hunting groups that are trampling the rights of Wisconsin hunters, farmers, pet owners, and families. State law clearly calls for a wolf hunt, and Hunter Nation will not sit by while the opponents of common sense predator management try to violate the constitutional rights of hunters in this state by denying that. We are reviewing our options for how to best continue the fight while Wisconsin’s hunters wait for the DNR to do the right thing.”
Today’s decision is a temporary injunction halting the hunt until the Dane County judge decides on the overall case, but it creates mass confusion with just three weeks until the beginning of the wolf hunt, which a Jefferson County judge ruled must move forward.
Those who stand with Hunter Nation and want the wolf hunt to move forward need to immediately call Governor Tony Evers at 608-266-1212 and AG Josh Kaul at 608-266-1221 and demand that they appeal this ruling to the Wisconsin Supreme Court so that the wolf hunt can move forward as scheduled.
