MADISON — Institute for Reforming Government President CJ Szafir had this to say following Gov. Tony Evers’ Budget address on Tuesday:

“Wisconsin cannot afford to go backwards at a time when we are teetering on a recession and global pandemic. Increasing taxes, coupled with massive spending hikes is simply reckless, as families have tightened their budget to reflect the times.

“Under Governor Walker and Republican leadership, Act 10 took power away from union bosses, giving it back to taxpayers and giving local governments the tools they need to curb costs not spend more.

“Sadly, there will be no bounce back for students stuck in the state’s largest school districts that remain closed, even though those districts are already receiving massive amounts of federal funding. Gov. Evers should not be funding brick and mortar buildings that are closed and instead he should focus on expanding high performing schools that are already open.”
