Madison, Wis. — Institute for Reforming Government President CJ Szafir testified today in the Wisconsin State Supreme Court supporting the petition filed by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty on behalf of former Speaker Scott Jensen. Szafir explained it was appropriate for any redistricting dispute to be settled in state court – and not federal.

In addition, it is necessary that the Court take the case under its original action jurisdiction rather than go through a Circuit Court first because of the severe time constraints involved.

“Wisconsin’s redistricting process is best handled by Wisconsin courts and given the time constraints involved, we agree that the state Supreme Court should grant the original action,” said CJ Szafir, President of the Institute for Reforming Government. “In doing so, the Court would be fulfilling its duty to vindicate constitutional and statutory rights just as it does in any other case including those with political overtones.”
