Madison, WI – State Representative Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) and Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green), Co-Chairs of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC), released the following statement ahead of their first votes on the biennial budget:
“Governor Evers’ has sent the Legislature an unworkable budget full of massive spending increases, tax hikes, and divisive policy items.
Instead of working from the Governor’s unrealistic proposal, the Joint Committee on Finance will be crafting its own version of the budget. We will also be removing hundreds of non-fiscal items as well as divisive policy that the Governor has included in his plan.
We will focus on crafting a budget that actually funds the priorities of the people of Wisconsin, while also ensuring we spend within our means.
By taking these steps, we are simply returning to the budget that Governor Evers signed last biennium. We believe this is a good starting point for crafting a reasonable, responsible, and realistic budget, similar to the budgets Wisconsin families and businesses need to live within every day.”
